A LITTLE COLOR. A LITTLE STRATEGY.

How to play

Color Flood Break is a small, free puzzle. Fill the whole grid with one color. There’s no timer, no move limit, and no account to create.

Start at the top left

  1. Your region is the connected group containing the top-left cell. Its cells have a light inset outline. A small dot marks the starting corner.
  2. Choose one of the six color buttons. Every cell in your region changes to that color.
  3. Touching cells of the new color join your region, including connected chains. Cells must share an edge: diagonal contact doesn’t count.
  4. Keep going until every cell has joined. Your total moves are shown throughout.

Each color also has a number from 1 to 6, shown on both the board and its button. You never need to distinguish the colors alone. In high-contrast mode, use the numbers and the region outline.

What counts as a move?

Choosing any different color counts as one move, even if no new cells join. Choosing the current color does nothing. Once you fill the board, color changes stop. Undo removes the last move from the count and restores the exact previous board. There’s no advertised “perfect” score: we don’t calculate the fewest possible moves.

Controls and second chances

Keyboard and screen readers

Tab into the board or one of the game’s buttons. Press 1–6 to choose a color or U to undo. These shortcuts work only while focus is inside the game, and are ignored in the size selector, text fields, and confirmation dialogs. Buttons also work with Enter or Space. Modifier keys and held-key repeats don’t trigger moves.

The board is exposed as a table. Each cell announces its row, column, number, color name, and whether it belongs to your region. Move results are announced without moving your focus. Press Escape in a confirmation dialog to keep playing.

Share a challenge

“Share this board” provides a link to the same starting board and grid size. It contains a seed or daily date in the part after #. Your moves and progress are not included. Share the same link to compare approaches. If automatic copying is unavailable, copy the selected link manually.

Version 1 links reproduce the same board. A daily board link keeps its original date, even when opened another day. Different grid sizes are different challenges, so compare scores only on the same link.

Try this

Look for a color that meets your region along several edges. Sometimes a small move opens up a larger cluster on the next turn. Undo lets you explore without losing the starting board.

Your session

Progress stays only in this open tab. Reloading, closing the tab, or navigating away loses your moves. Browsers may show a leave-page warning, but it isn’t guaranteed, especially on phones. Copy the board link before leaving if you want to replay its starting layout. There is no saved-game or account feature.
